Interior Resurfacing
Pebble Finishes That Last
Some finishes look great on day one, then turn scratchy and patchy once the pool’s back in regular use. Mad Pool Interiors & Renovations delivers pebblecrete pool resurfacing for concrete pools across the Sunshine Coast, giving you a tougher, grippier surface built for real life.
Our team pairs proven prep work with quality pebble mixes so your pool looks sharper, feels better underfoot and holds its colour season after season. We start by inspecting the shell and identifying any hollow spots, cracks or previous repairs, then strip back what’s failing so the new interior bonds properly.
From there we’ll guide you through pebble size and blend choices to suit the water colour you’re chasing, plus practical decisions like step edges, benches and waterline transitions so the finished pool is comfortable and easy to live with.
Once applied, the surface is exposed and washed to reveal the pebble, then balanced and checked so the pool can be handed back with confidence. If you want straight answers and a finish that lasts, call (07) 5493 3639 to book your free onsite quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is pebble pool resurfacing done?
Pebble resurfacing begins by draining and checking the shell, then removing loose areas of the old interior. The surface is prepared for bonding, fittings are protected and a pebble-and-cement mix is applied. After curing, it’s washed to expose the pebble, then the pool is refilled and started up.
Is pebble pool resurfacing rough on feet?
Pebble textures vary from fine to more pronounced blends. A well-finished surface should feel grippy, not sharp, but it can be firmer than plaster. Picking a smaller aggregate, correct exposure and regular brushing during start-up helps smooth high points, especially on steps, benches and shallow areas. Test samples barefoot first.
How long does pebble pool resurfacing last?
Pebble finishes are known for durability. With correct surface preparation, a proper start-up and balanced water chemistry, many pebble interiors last 15–25 years or longer. Longevity depends on bather load, sun exposure, calcium hardness and how consistently pH, alkalinity and sanitiser levels are kept in range.

ROLLOVERS
Whilst we have and do rollover copings you must be aware that these can crack and we suggest against this application. Pebble is best off in a controlled environment ie; under the coping pavers / tile, away from the heat of the sun. For this reason we cannot warranty rollovers.
WATERPROOF
Pebble is not a water- proofing agent but a decorative coating. Pebble is equally suited to salt water or chlorine or ozone.
FENCING
Your new pool cannot be pebbled unless you have had fencing passed by your local council authority or building certifier. This is due to the fact that your pool has to be filled within 24 hours after application. Form 17 required.
WEIR WALLS & TROUGHS, PONDS & CASTELLATIONS (Stepping Stones)
Today many architects are involved with the design of your new pool. Whilst these additions look fantastic a few pointers to help you and save problems down the track. Tile the face of your weir wall – as pebble prefers to be under water many weir walls are in direct sunlight and pebble becomes drummy if allowed to dry out. Castellations, provide access in some difficult situations, however pebble is a hand trowelled product and variations will occur, we find that tiled castellations provide a more acceptable finish.

About Pebble Interiors
The use of pebbles in the lining of pools started in Australia over 30 years ago. Many people may remember the large aggregate used in pebble pool interiors as being rough to touch.
Now however, we have available 1mm to 2mm pool pebbles, which when applied correctly by our team provide a fabulous smooth texture. The inert nature and hard but smooth feel of pool pebble means a trouble free and unlimited life span, combined with good looks and appealing water colour.
Although Pebble finishes come in different colours, the actual colour when underwater will greatly depend on the landscape where you live, the time of day and the depth of your pool.
Water colour is either Blue or Green, depending on the pebble colour you choose, but the reflection of hills and other natural features near the pool will determine the exact colour of blue or green. This colour will change slightly with the passage of the Sun across the sky.
How It Works
Application of Pebble
- Concrete shell must be clean of all debris, water, tilers glue and concrete overspray.
- During colder months please ensure that any water in the pool is drained a week before application of your new interior as concrete holds moisture and with no heat in the day the shell does not dry out enough for your new interior.
- It is advised that all penetrations in pool shell (pipes, skimmer box, main drain be sealed prior to application of your new surface).
- Glue coat is applied by pump and broomed over surface.
- Pebble mix is sprayed on to walls and floor and hand trowelled to a smooth finish.
- At the appropriate time the interior is then water blasted to expose your new pebble interior.
- All slurry is bagged and left on site for your disposal – or for a charge we can take it away.
- The interior is then left to cure.
- We return and acid clean the new interior to remove any cement residue.
- At this point we fit any necessary pool fittings (supplied by builder).
- Hose is left filling your new pool.
- You are now ready for your pool builder or pool shop to come in and balance your pool water with chemicals.
Care Tips
Maintenance Guide
- Do not stop the water until the pool is completely full – if the water is stopped before the pool is full, it is likely there will be a ring at the water line that will be difficult if not impossible to remove.
- Do not enter pool until completely full.
- After the filter has been started, the pool should be brushed every second to third day for the first four weeks. If you have a pool cleaner / robot this can be added once filtration is operational. Plaster residue accumulates in all newly pebbled pools and produces a cloudy appearance until cleared by filter system. This is normal, but if not removed the residue will harden and discolour the surface.
- Clean your filter regularly during this period.
- Chemical balance of the pool water should be kept at proper levels at all times. Failure to keep a correct chemical balance will result in a scale build up and discolouring of the pool surface.
- PH 6.8 to 7.2 for the first month. Then 7.2 to 7.6.
- Total Alkalinity 150 ppm.
- NO CALCIUM to be added for at least the first month.
- Final water colour can take up to 2 weeks to be achieved.
- Check after storms that no dirt has been deposited in the pool.
- Do not drain the pool without consulting builder, as pool surface can be severely damaged if permitted to dry out. Draining is not recommended for at least eighteen months, except for repair and then only under professional supervision.
- We advise that salt not be added for 28 days after your new interior has been completed. Buy only fine grade salt available at all pool shops as cheaper versions can be detrimental to your new interior. For this period we suggest you run your pool on liquid chlorine during the curing stage.
- We suggest you use your local pool shop for all your chemicals and advise as these people are professionals in the field of water chemistry.
- The pool should be brushed once daily for the first four weeks.
